RE: Beaumont School, Austen Way, St Albans
The application is for the demolition of 1no school building (Building EFAB) and erection 1no twostorey teaching block, 1no meter room building, with associated landscaping (including SEN
Garden, hard and soft social spaces, external dining spaces and an outdoor gym), ground source
heat pump and additional parking.
The proposed development is located to the east of St Albans. The Hertfordshire Historic
Environment Record shows that there is some evidence of medieval and post medieval activity
within the vicinity including a possible moat and two farmsteads (HHER13210, 13209, 16445).
Features associated with these are unlikely to extend into the proposed development area. A Desk
Based Assessment submitted with the planning application indicates a generally low archaeological
potential for all past periods of human activity. The potential for surviving archaeological deposits on
the site is limited. The construction of the current building is likely to have truncated any surviving
archaeological remains therefore no archaeological recommendations are being made on this
application.
